Offensive Concept: 20p 2x1 GT Bash
Defensive Structure: Even Open Zone
Why It Works: Numbers & Angles. The key to the play is the switch blocks between the left running back and the number two receiver. That action gives good angles and leaves the safety the sole unblocked defender. Indecision from the number one receiver causes issues, but you can’t have everything.
Let’s talk about the read. The defensive end takes two steps and sits there. I thought he looked to be in pretty good position to tackle the give player, but that wasn’t the case. He was square and outside at the moment of decision. He doesn’t make a play at the mesh, but he does go and help clean up after the gain.
I had a lot of success with that last season, except I ran it out of single back and read the c-gap defender for an option read and sometimes tagged an RPO to it. Other than that, it was pretty much the same. Fun play.
