Article of the Week:
There is a great writer named Tim Brown who has done amazing work digging into football’s past and telling its story. Important work. His latest book is being published on his site and I’ve linked the introduction below. This book covers the history of the football — this not-so-round ball we obsess over has a fascinating history I’m learning about every day.
Read the introduction here and every other chapter is linked at the bottom of the post:
Video of the Week:
Blitzing both A Gaps is a BIG problem. Coach Sullivan’s YouTube channel is a goldmine of information on defense — they are detailed and varied. This video on a sim pressure It’s a great example of using different presentations to bring the same pressure — another BIG problem.

Book Recommendation
When I’m not reading about football I am reading fiction or about conquistadors. I’ll spare you the latter and recommend a classic western — Lonesome Dove is a story of men decided on a mission through trial after trial. Funny and sad, I suggest all should read it if you have any desire to be moved through the lives of old-timer Texas Rangers who determine to take one last drive. It’s the type of book you never want to end (and really it never does, it’s a mammoth of a book), and when it does end you want to reread it to hear the characters’ voices just one more time.
“I'm glad I've been wrong enough to keep in practice… You can't avoid it, you've got to learn to handle it. If you only come face to face with your own mistakes once or twice in your life it's bound to be extra painful. I face mine every day — that way they ain't usually much worse than a dry shave.”
Gus McCrae
If you buy the book, find one that has this cover. The new one doesn’t do the book justice.
